FOCUS talks to Line Producer/Executive Producer/Consultant, Nigel Goldsack

Nigel Goldsack is engaged in physical production of feature films, commercials, TV, documentaries and corporate films as well as acting as a consultant and assessing viability and cost comparisons of worldwide locations. His background of working for 10 years as a location production manager on projects of all shapes and sizes has informed this work as well his production roles in often extreme and challenging locations.

Nigel, you attended FOCUS 2016. What did you think about the event?

I was impressed. I’m not usually a fan of trade shows but I was pleasantly surprised to find a gathering of knowledgeable, engaged and well-prepared exhibitors often with first-hand knowledge of production. This was complimented by a constant stream of worthwhile presentations and Q&As, enabling the attendee to gather a complete picture of the value of incentives, and the breadth of locations and services available in the contributing countries. Another useful aspect was that it introduced me to some UK Rental companies ranging from innovative green screen provision to drone operators, whose existence was then new to me and whom I have since contacted for various projects.

Were you at FOCUS looking for locations and incentives with a particular project in mind?

I attended in order to refresh my knowledge of ever changing incentives and to investigate the availability of particular locations in a range of countries that could fit the projects with which I am involved.

Did you attend FOCUS sessions last year and if so, which ones and what did you think?

Yes, I attended three or four sessions including: Variety’s fascinating briefing with Adrian Wootton on Film London’s development and plans for the future. Film France: Melanie Chebance and John Bernard’s comprehensive explanation of the French incentive and how to make it work for your production. Access Asia – The Bridge: Amanda Groom’s knowledgeable take on the etiquette and planning needed to access production finance and reliable production services in Asia.

In a word or two how would you describe FOCUS to a fellow producer or production professional thinking of attending FOCUS for the first time this year?

A valuable opportunity to assess a variety of options in one place.

Will you be coming back to FOCUS this year and attending the FOCUS welcome drinks sponsored by Maltsmith beer, Variety, PACT, PMA and the European Film Commissioners Network for over 1,000 producers and exhibitors on the first evening?

Definitely, it would be rude not to!

Many thanks Nigel and looking forward to seeing you at FOCUS 2017.

FOCUS 2017 will take place at London’s Business Design Centre, December 5th and 6th. To register your attendance for the event, click here.
