Emma Boswell - Founder, Helicopter Girls

Before co-founding The Helicopter Girls Emma worked as a Series Producer in documentaries with over 40 hours of prime time television for the BBC and major UK broadcasters behind her.  She is one of the foremost specialists establishing new ground for UAVs to work safely in congested areas and loves finding ways to make challenging shoots happen. Emma has been a speaker on panels and at events for Film London, Women in Film and Television, Televisual Factual Film Festival, Wildscreen and Sheffield Doc Fest, speaking about pioneering UAVs in film, and promoting the role of women in technology.

Although not an exclusively female company, The Helicopter Girls is actively engaging with organisations such as Women in Film and Television and Creative Skillset to create training opportunities for women in the UAV field. Our aim is to work towards increased diversity in the field as well as build on future employment opportunities within and outside the UK.

Katya Nelhams-Wright and Emma Boswell, both former documentary makers, founded The Helicopter Girls in 2011. One of the most experienced professional teams in the business, they have been working with multi-rotor technology since the birth of the UAV film industry, creating compelling aerials for film and television. Their work ranges from feature film, drama and commercials to arts and factual productions for major UK and US broadcasters. Credits include Fungus the Bogeyman (Sky); Mission Impossible 5 (Paramount); And Then There Were None (Mammoth Screen); Da Vinci’s Demons (Fox); Detectorists (BBC); Welcome to The Mosque (BBC), McDonalds We Are Awake (Tantrum); Tourist, RUN (Partizan).
