FOCUS talks to Paul Audley of Film L.A., Inc.

Since arriving at FilmL.A., Paul has negotiated new long-term contracts from client municipalities and school districts, initiated a public education campaign; “Film Works,” and has overseen improvements in the organisation’s online permit system, “OPS”. Paul has been recognised for raising the public image and reputation of FilmL.A. and for greatly improving the internal management of the company.

Paul, you attended both FOCUS 2015 and 2016. What brings you back this year?

The continued opportunity to meet filmmakers from around the world and encourage them to film in Greater Los Angeles.

How has the past year been for productions filming in LA?

Film, television and commercial production is up 6.2%, with television leading the growth in our region. Last year we issued more than 12,000 permits!

What in particular will you be promoting this year on the FilmL.A. stand?

We will highlight the expanded tax credit and availability of our staff to help international filmmakers “hit the ground running” in LA.

What was the most common question you got from producers at FOCUS last year about Los Angeles as a filming destination?

The ability to use the tax credit and how to get general information about filming in our region. Our Production Planning Department is a great, free resource!

In a sentence, how would you describe FOCUS to a producer thinking of attending FOCUS for the first time this year?

FOCUS is a unique opportunity to make connections with filmmakers from around the globe, especially from Europe and Great Britain.

How do you like the FOCUS venue, exhibition layout, organisation and facilities?

FOCUS substantially enhanced the event by creating specific enclosed locations for seminars. The exhibit floor is very manageable for participants and visitors.

Many thanks Paul. Looking forward to seeing you and the Film L.A. team at FOCUS 2017.

FOCUS 2017 will take place at London’s Business Design Centre, December 5th and 6thTo register your attendance for the event, click here.
