Julie Baines – Founder and Producer, Dan Films  

Having worked her way through the production ranks, Julie has been producing independent films for more than 20 years through her company, Dan Films.  

Known for independent British productions and international co-productions, her projects span all genres and budget levels, from period biopic ’The Cat’s Meow’ directed by Peter Bogdanovich and starring Kirsten Dunst, to Christopher Smith’s London set horror film ‘Creep’. She produced the first feature directed by Michael Winterbottom and written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, ‘Butterfly Kiss’, and the final film by Nicolas Roeg, ‘Puffball’, adapted from the novel by Fay Weldon. 

Her recent film, ‘Four Kids and It’, inspired by Jacqueline Wilson’s ‘Four Children and It’, was made for a family audience. It was released internationally and continues to perform outstandingly for Sky Cinema in the UK.  

Julie enjoys working with emerging as well as experienced filmmakers. She regularly mentors new Producers Directors and Writers and guest lectures on various courses, working closely in particular with the NFTS. She is Co-Chair of the PACT Film Producers Group and a Trustee of the East London arts charity Chisenhale Art Place. Julie is a recipient of the prestigious Women in Film and Television Argonon Contribution to the Medium Award.
