FOCUS talks to Pak Chaisana of A Grand Elephant Production Services – Thailand

Pak Chaisana first began working in film in 1984 as an assistant set decorator on The Killing Fields. She has been in the business for over 30 years, gathering international experience and finally opening up her own production house in 2005, called A Grand Elephant Production. She has worked on productions with studio and independent film companies.

Pak, you exhibited at FOCUS 2016. What brings you back this year?

It was such a good experience and a good venue to catch up on people in the industry and make new friends in the process.

What will you be promoting at FOCUS 2017?

As the Thai film incentives are still in their infancy, we will be helping the Thailand film Office with letting filmmakers know that the incentives are available and how they can access them. Last year brought a lot of interest so we are hoping to build on that momentum.

What was the most common question you received from producers at FOCUS last year about Thailand as a filming destination?

Originally it was about whether we had incentives, which we now have. The other questions were about locations, logistics, equipment and when is a good time to film there.

What productions have you been working on and with which production companies in the past year?

We have been working mostly on commercials as well as our own projects, one being a documentary on bull elephants and their mahouts. We have worked on commercials with Stink UK, Stink USA, Smuggler UK, RSA UK and Forever UK

In a sentence, how would you describe FOCUS to a producer who is thinking of attending the event for the first time?

I would describe FOCUS as a great place to be for an enjoyable and fruitful couple of days. It provides you with essential updates in the global production industry and showcases a breadth of unique locations that you might not have considered otherwise. The FOCUS sessions always deal with issues that concern our filming community, whether it be in production, distribution, content and so on. I would encourage any producer to attend FOCUS.

How do you like the FOCUS venue, exhibition layout, organisation and facilities?

The Business Design Centre is a good venue, it is convenient and easy to get to. The organisation and facilities were also very good. One can always find help as an exhibitor for anything that might come up. I like the layout of the venue as it’s not complicated to work your way around. The venue is near a variety of restaurants and plenty of great hotels, although they do tend to get snapped up quickly!

Pak, thank you for your time. We are looking forward to seeing you at FOCUS 2017.

FOCUS 2017 will take place at London’s Business Design Centre, December 5th and 6thTo register your attendance for the event, click here.
